What to expect

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is a scenic canyon located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. It is approximately 24 miles long, 800 to 1,200 feet deep, and 0.25 to 0.75 miles wide. The canyon was formed by the erosional action of the Yellowstone River, which flows through it and created the Upper and Lower Falls. The area has a complex geologic history, with volcanic eruptions, glaciation, and hydrothermal activity shaping the landscape. The canyon's walls are made of rhyolite rock, which has been altered by hydrothermal activity, resulting in a variety of colors. The area is home to osprey nests and other wildlife. Visitors can experience the canyon from various overlooks, trails, and walkways, although some trails are not recommended for visitors with certain health conditions. The canyon is still being eroded by the Yellowstone River and is a unique natural treasure
