Henry Vilas Zoo is a 28-acre public zoo that is home to a wide range of animals from around the world, including amphibians, birds, fish, insects, mammals, and reptiles. The zoo features several exhibits, such as the Arctic Passage, which includes large, natural habitats for polar bears, grizzly bears, and harbor seals, as well as underwater viewing areas. The zoo also has a tropical rainforest aviary and a Wisconsin Heritage Trail that highlights the state's rich mining history. The zoo is one of the few remaining free zoos in North America and is dedicated to exceptional animal care and conserving wildlife through local engagement and global partnerships. The zoo is located adjacent to the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum and Vilas Park, which offers a sandy beach, fishing sites, and ice skating in the winter

Activities: We went to this free zoo. The article says: "You can see the 'classic' animals: lions, giraffes, monkeys, tigers... The children can feed the farm animals, goats, cows...". We also visited the playground, took the train, and went on the carousel
Highlights: The playground was fantastic, and so was the small train and carousel! The kids especially loved feeding the farm animals. "A gigantic 'playground' awaits the children, as well as a small train and a carousel." ✨
