Lime Kiln State Park

Lime Kiln Point State Park, also known as Whale Watch Park, is a 36-acre day-use park located on the west side of San Juan Island. The park is considered one of the best places in the world to view whales from land, with orca whales, minke whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, otters, and bald eagles commonly spotted in the area. The park features a historic lighthouse built in 1919, which still serves as a navigational beacon for ships in the Haro Strait. Visitors can enjoy a picnic along the rocky shoreline, explore the beach, and take part in interpretive programs and lighthouse tours. The park is supported by the Friends of Lime Kiln Society and offers accessible restrooms, drinking water, and picnic tables. With its unique bathymetric properties, the site allows visitors to be within 20 feet of whales jumping out of the water, making it an ideal spot for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities like hiking and beachcombing
