What to expect

The Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve trail and nearby beach offer a unique hiking experience with stunning views of Guemes, Cypress, and Lummi Islands. The east-bound trail is wide and paved, stretching 1.1 miles, with the seaward edge showing signs of wave erosion. The beach along this part is stony and not inviting for exploration, but it's a great spot to see herons, gulls, eagles, ospreys, and other sea-birds. The landward side of the trail is densely green, with large trees leaning over the trail, and in spring, various wildflowers bloom on the north-facing slopes. The westbound trail is different, offering a gentle meander through low shrubbery, with access to a sandy beach and viewpoints overlooking the beach. The trail also features a cattail marsh, home to red-wing blackbirds
