The Humpback Covered Bridge is a historic bridge located in Alleghany County, Virginia, near the city of Covington. It is one of the few remaining covered bridges in the United States that was built higher in the middle than on either end, hence the name 'humpback'. The bridge was built in 1857 and is the oldest remaining covered bridge in the state of Virginia. It spans a tributary of the Jackson River known as Dunlap Creek, for a distance of 109 feet. The bridge is 4 feet higher in the center than at either end and features a unique design. Today, it is part of a five-acre wayside park, complete with restroom facilities and picnic tables, making it a great place to visit with family and friends. The site is also used as a wedding venue and for Easter Sunrise Services
