Gravelly Point is a popular spot for plane-spotters, picnickers, and others to watch planes take off and land from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The area has a picnic table, restroom, and scenic view/photo spot. It is located on the west side of the Potomac River, immediately north of Roaches Run and the airport. The paved Mount Vernon Trail travels through the area, and there is a rugby pitch that hosts high school matches. A boat launch and a Capital Bikeshare dock are also available. The public recreation area is patrolled by the U.S. Park Police, and the airport land is secured by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police
