Stowe is a town in Lamoille County, Vermont, United States. The town lies on Vermont Routes 108 and 100 and is nicknamed 'The Ski Capital of the East'. It is home to Stowe Mountain Resort, a ski facility with terrain on Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, and Spruce Peak. Stowe has a rich history, with the indigenous Abenaki people being forced aside by British settlers after the French and Indian War. The town was chartered in 1763 and was initially dominated by the farm and lumber industries. Over time, it became a well-known summer resort, and later a popular destination for skiing and other winter activities. Today, Stowe welcomes all persons, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, family status, age, or ability, and wants everyone to feel safe and welcome in the community
