What to expect

Scout Lookout is a great hiking destination for families, offering stunning views of Zion Canyon without the need for a permit. The West Rim Trail takes you up the side of the canyon, with a series of steep switchbacks and a climb of over 1,000 feet. Along the way, you'll pass through Refrigerator Canyon, which provides some shade and relief from the heat. At the top, you'll find a relatively flat area with some shade, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the canyon and watch people navigating the chains to Angels Landing. The hike is considered strenuous, but the views are well worth the effort. It's a great option for those who want to experience the beauty of Zion without the anxiety of the chains section
