Angels Landing is a strenuous and challenging trail that follows a steep, narrow ridge with uneven steps cut into the rock and chains anchored intermittently along the route. The trail is only a few feet wide in some areas, with exposed edges and sheer drop-offs of as much as 1,000 feet on each side. Hikers must navigate this trail with extreme caution and be ready to yield to other hikers. The trail begins at the Grotto Trailhead and features a nice prelude to the main show, with a series of twenty-one switchbacks that lead to a sandy pad called Scout Lookout, offering aerial views into Zion Canyon. The final 500-vertical-foot push to the top of Angels Landing is a steep scramble with heavy chains attached to the rock serving as handrails along most of the drop-offs. The summit commands a spectacular 360-degree panorama of rugged spires and towering walls, making it a great destination for experienced hikers. However, the hike is not recommended for young children due to the high level of difficulty and exposure
