What to expect

Island in the Sky is a sheer-walled mesa and the northern part of Canyonlands National Park, offering a scenic drive with pullouts at vistas where you get amazing views out over the surrounding country, including rugged canyons carved by the Colorado and Green rivers. The area is the most accessible district in Canyonlands and is close to Moab and Arches National Park. It features popular viewpoints such as Grand View Point, Mesa Arch, Green River Overlook, and Upheaval Dome. A visitor center is available with exhibits, book and map sales, backcountry permits, and picnic areas. The White Rim Trail, a rugged four-wheel drive and mountain bike route, circles Island in the Sky and offers access to designated campsites

Activities: We knew we were in for some dramatic rock formations when these two huge monoliths, Merrimac and Monitor, appeared in the distance seemingly guarding the park’s entrance

Highlights: Its name may conjure up an image of a floating isle in a fairy tale setting but there really was something “magical” about Canyonland’s Island in the Sky ✨
