What to expect

The Waco Mammoth National Monument is a paleontological site that protects the only nursery herd of Columbian mammoths in the U.S. The site features fossils of female mammoths, a bull mammoth, and an ancient relative of camels, as well as other Ice Age creatures. Visitors can enjoy tours of the Dig Shelter, which houses fossils in situ, and learn about the history and discovery of the site. The monument is situated within 100+ acres of wooded parkland along the Bosque River, providing a unique and educational experience for families

Activities: We visited the Waco Mammoth National Monument. We had to wait a half hour to get to the dig site because of all the kids. The site shows the life and habitat of Columbian mammoths. The kids were very happy to leave with a Junior Ranger badge!

Highlights: The kids enjoyed the visit and the Junior Ranger badge. The experience was a great way to learn about history. They loved the visit ✨
