The San Antonio River Walk is a city park and special-case pedestrian street in San Antonio, Texas, one level down from the automobile street. The River Walk winds and loops under bridges as two parallel sidewalks lined with restaurants and shops, connecting the major tourist draws such as the Shops at Rivercenter, the Arneson River Theatre, Marriage Island, La Villita, HemisFair Park, and the city's five Spanish colonial missions. The area provides a downtown staging ground for public festivals and celebrations, and it also affords San Antonians and visitors alike a safe and attractive pedestrian system for the downtown. There are 3.51 miles of walks lining the banks of the river in the heart of the city. The pedestrian can step from the street to the river level and encounter trees, plants, and flowing water. The River Walk is a great place to visit with family and friends, with many restaurants, shops, and activities to enjoy. Visitors can take a stroll along the river, go on a boat tour, or attend one of the many festivals and events held throughout the year
