Pedernales River

River Dripping Springs, Texas, United States

What to expect

The Pedernales River is a tributary of the Colorado River, approximately 106 miles long, in Central Texas. It drains an area of the Edwards Plateau, flowing west to east across the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. The river has a close association with the Texas Hill Country, tied to the history of the region and emblematic of its geography. Along its route, it flows over numerous rugged limestone escarpments as it winds eastward. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. However, it's essential to be aware of the river's prone nature to variable water levels and flash flooding. Pedernales Falls State Park, located along the river, offers camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities. The park also features a bird blind and butterfly garden, making it a great spot for nature lovers and families
