What to expect

Castroville is a city with a rich history, designated as a Preserve America City. It was settled in the 1840s by people from the Alsace Region of France and boasts 96 homes and structures, known as Settlement or Pioneer houses, built between 1844 and 1920. The city has a lot to offer visitors, including the Castroville Regional Park, which features a dozen nature trails, a butterfly garden with over 65 species of butterflies, and opportunities for hiking and birdwatching. The park is also a premier haven for birders, with over 160 species of birds. For families, Castroville has great shopping and antiquing, as well as some of the best restaurants in the region. The Steinbach Haus, a home from the mid 1600s, is now the Visitor Center and offers a glimpse into the city's Alsatian heritage
