What to expect

The McFaddin-Ward House is a historic home that showcases the lifestyle of a wealthy Southeast Texas family between 1907 and 1950. The 12,800-square-foot house features original furnishings and reflects the family's love of decorative arts, with a collection of over 12,000 items, including Midwestern manufactured furniture, Oriental rugs, and American and English silver. The house itself is a blend of Victorian and Greek Revival styles with a strong French beaux-arts influence. The museum offers free volunteer docent-led tours of the home, as well as educational programming and events. The carriage house and gardens are also open to visitors. The McFaddin-Ward House is one of the few house museums in which the home's original furnishings are intact and on display, making it a unique and fascinating place to visit

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited this architectural jewel built in 1905 in the neo-colonial style. We saw how a rich family lived here for nearly seventy-five years. The house was very modern for its time: kitchen with appliances, elevator, interior garden, electric and gas heating, etc

Highlights: We loved this museum! "Certaines visites furent de vrais coup de cœur...". We were fascinated by the house and its history. It was really impressive for its time ✨
