Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a national memorial centered on a colossal sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota. The sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, named it the 'Shrine of Democracy,' and oversaw the execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. The sculpture features the 60-foot-tall heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, chosen to represent the nation's birth, growth, development, and preservation. The memorial park covers 1,278 acres and attracts more than two million visitors annually. Visitors can explore the site's Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota heritage at the Borglum View Terrace, participate in the Junior Ranger Program, and enjoy a scoop of Thomas Jefferson ice cream from the Carver's Cafe. The land surrounding Mount Rushmore National Memorial is home to a wide variety of animals, including more than 200 mountain goats, mule deer, chipmunks, and yellow-bellied marmots

Activities: We visited Mount Rushmore and took a guided tour or ranger talk to learn more about the monument and its history
Highlights: The kids were fascinated by the sculpting and caretaking of the monument, and we all enjoyed learning about the monument's complicated history ✨

Activities: We went to Mount Rushmore, which represents four great presidents of American history. The Junior Ranger booklet was of a very high level for the non-American children, so we "cheated" and helped them fill their booklet
Highlights: The places are, in our opinion, very focused on patriotism, a feeling that may suit Americans better than foreign visitors ✨
