Rittenhouse Square is a public park in Center City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the center of the eponymous Rittenhouse neighborhood. The square is one of the five original open-space parks planned by William Penn and his surveyor Thomas Holme during the late 17th century. It's a popular spot for picnics, sun-bathing, or just taking a stroll amid the trees, manicured lawns, and sculptures. The park features several of the city's best-loved outdoor sculptures, including the dramatic Lion Crushing a Serpent and the Duck Girl. Rittenhouse Square hosts dozens of events throughout the year, including the Rittenhouse Square Spring Festival, the Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show, and the Rittenhouse Square Christmas Tree Lighting. The surrounding neighborhood is known for its high-end stores, locally owned boutiques, small galleries, theaters, and restaurants, making it a great place to visit with family and friends
