What to expect

The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is a spectacular river canyon, 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep, that meanders past cliffs, spires, and ridges set against nearby peaks of the Cascade Mountain Range. The area is renowned for its scenic resources, including rain forests, rolling farmlands, and semi-arid grasslands, as well as its cultural resources, such as prehistoric sites and historic structures. The National Scenic Area offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including windsurfing, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, kiteboarding, and rafting on the two Wild and Scenic Rivers—the Klickitat and White Salmon Rivers. The area is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, plants, streams, lakes, wetlands, and riparian corridors.
