What to expect

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is a great place for families to visit, with its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk. With approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Families can explore the refuge's many trails, including the Elk Trail, Longhorn Trail, and Kite Trail, and take in the stunning views from the top of Mount Scott. The refuge is also home to a variety of wildlife, including over 275 species of birds, making it a great place for bird watching.
