What to expect

Conkle's Hollow State Nature Preserve is a rugged, rocky gorge considered one of the deepest in Ohio. The valley floor is a wilderness covered by a profusion of ferns and wildflowers, while hemlock, birch, and other hardwood trees tower overhead. The preserve features two trails: the Lower Trail, which is wheelchair-accessible and ¾ mile long, and the Upper Trail, which is a one-way, 2-mile trail that involves a moderate to steep incline and uneven steps. The preserve is not pet-friendly, and hikers must remain on the marked trail. The area is home to several unique features, including the Grotto, Slump Rock, and a waterfall. According to legend, robbers buried treasure somewhere in Conkle's Hollow, but visitors are not allowed to dig or stray from the trail. The preserve offers stunning scenery, including cliff views and autumn leaf peeping opportunities, making it a great destination for families and nature lovers
