The New York City Fire Museum is a museum dedicated to the New York City Fire Department, showcasing a vast collection of fire-related art, artifacts, gear, and apparatus from the late 18th century to the present. The museum features exhibits that demonstrate the changes in firefighting practices, the evolution of the department, and a special memorial to the 343 members of the FDNY who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. Retired FDNY firefighters are often on hand to educate the public on firefighting history and relate personal anecdotes. The museum also offers fire safety and prevention education, including a mock apartment highlighting fire hazards for children
