What to expect

The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge that connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City. It spans the East River and has a main span of 1,595.5 feet. The bridge has a distinctive promenade above the roadway and is supported by four cables. It was designed by John A. Roebling and took 13 years to complete, finally opening on May 24, 1883. The Brooklyn Bridge is an iconic landmark and a major tourist attraction, with over 121,000 vehicles, 32,000 pedestrians, and 4,000 cyclists crossing it every day. The bridge has undergone several renovations and reconfigurations over the years, including the addition of a two-way protected bike lane in 2021.
