La Hacienda de los Martinez is a historic hacienda that showcases the rugged frontier life and times of the early 1800s. This fortress-like building with massive adobe walls was built in 1804 and features 21 rooms surrounding two courtyards. The hacienda was an important trade center for the northern boundary of the Spanish Empire and was owned by Severino Martinez, who raised six children with his wife Maria. Today, visitors can explore the hacienda and learn about the traditional arts and crafts of the region through regularly scheduled demonstrations. The hacienda's museum shop offers a variety of handmade goods, including bultos, retablos, quilts, and textiles. The hacienda is also home to the Old Taos Trade Fair, a mountain man rendezvous that takes place in late September
