What to expect

Capulin Volcano National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located in northeastern New Mexico that protects and interprets an extinct cinder cone volcano. The monument offers a variety of activities for visitors, including nearly five miles of hiking trails, a paved road that spirals around the volcano, and a visitor center with exhibits and a park film. From the top of the volcano, visitors can see the Rocky Mountains and explore the surrounding area, which includes a large volcanic field with at least 100 recognizable volcanoes. The monument provides access to nature's most awe-inspiring work and is a great place for families to learn about geology, ecology, and history. Junior Ranger books are available for younger visitors, and ranger-led interpretive programs offer a better understanding of Capulin's unique features

This family's experience:

Activities: We hiked around the Capulin Volcano National Monument. "The children were happy and were even willing to do the loop that goes around the old volcanic cone." And then we filled the Junior Ranger booklets

Highlights: The view from the top was just incredible! The kids loved it and were happy to hike. "And none regretted it, the view from the top, on the plains, was just incredible!" ✨
