What to expect

The Dune Life Nature Trail is a 1.6-km loop trail located at the edge of the dunefield, offering a unique and diverse ecosystem. This family-friendly trail is a great way to explore White Sands, with 14 trailside signs featuring Katie the Kit Fox, the trail's mascot, who will guide you through the area and teach you about the animals that live in the park. The trail requires hikers to climb two steep dunes with loose sand and is marked with blue trail markers with a club symbol. The area is home to various animals, including kit foxes, badgers, birds, coyotes, rodents, and reptiles, and visitors can look for tracks in the sand to learn about the previous night's activities. The trail is suitable for families and offers spectacular scenery, with the option to hike the entire trail or just a part of it. Visitors are advised to be prepared, bring plenty of water, and protect themselves from the sun
