The park offers a serene and surprising respite from the commotion of nearby highways and surrounding suburban communities. With over 70 miles of flat, continuous path available for use, the D&R Canal State Park is a haven for cyclists, runners, hikers, nature and history lovers of all kinds. The park features a historic towpath, wood bridges, lock and bridge tender houses, locks, cobblestone spillways, and stone-arched culverts. Visitors can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, as well as hiking, jogging, bicycling, and horseback riding along the graded natural-surface trail. The park is also home to scenic sections, such as the segment along Lake Carnegie in Princeton, which features the canal on one side of the path and the lake on the other side
