Watchung Reservation is a 2,000+ acre preserve located in the northern portion of Union County, New Jersey. The reservation features a 6-mile History Trail that visits and identifies sites of historic interest, including the Deserted Village of Feltville and Lake Surprise. The trail is marked with pink blazes and has signs on posts along the trail identifying the location of each site. The reservation also includes a bridle trail, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, multi-use path, nature trail, picnic area, playground, restrooms, and Wi-Fi. The area has a rich history, with evidence of the Lenape presence, and was later used for copper mining and as a summer resort. The reservation is bounded by the city of Summit, the borough of Mountainside, and the townships of Berkeley Heights, Scotch Plains, and Springfield

Activities: We went to the Watchung Reservation, which is just 15 minutes away from the Great Swamp. There are picnic grounds, a large playground, horse stables, Lake Surprise and the Blue Brook you can walk down to see. There is also a camping area, a couple of historic sites and many, many hiking trails! We could have spent an entire day there!
Highlights: We loved exploring the reservation and all the different things there are to do. The playground was a big hit with the kids and the horse stables were a nice surprise ✨
