The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is a 12-square-mile natural oasis located in Morris County, New Jersey. It is a great place for migrating waterfowl to stop, rest, and feed on their migration. The refuge features a visitor center with state-of-the-art exhibits, native plant gardens, and trails, including the half-mile Bockoven Trail and the Nature Detective Trail, a short self-guided woodland trail that challenges children to use their senses and explore nature up close. The refuge also has a Wilderness area, which was designated by Congress as a National Wilderness Area in 1968, and is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, and offers opportunities for photography and wildlife observation

Activities: We visited the refuge and hiked on the Orange trail, but the mud was so bad that we had to cut our losses and head to the Wildlife Observation Center. The observation center has a 1 1/2 miles of board walk, and wooden platforms and it is easy to walk around. We were able to explore all of the different areas of the observation center, and see different birds
Highlights: We loved seeing the birds and the different areas of the refuge. The observation center was especially nice because it was easy to walk around and we could see the birds up close ✨
