Flathead River

The Flathead River is a 219-mile long river located in northwest Montana, known for its free-flowing water and diverse native plant communities. The river system includes the North, Middle, and South Forks, which travel through some of the most wild and rugged country in the United States, including Glacier National Park, Great Bear Wilderness, and Bob Marshall Wilderness. The Flathead River is a nationally valued resource, providing high-quality habitat for indigenous fish species, including west slope cutthroat and bull trout. The river is also home to a variety of geologic features, such as the Goat Lick, Meadow Creek Gorge, and colored riverbed rocks. The Flathead River system is one of the last strongholds for the native Westslope Cutthroat trout, and conservation projects are aimed at restoring this species to the Three Forks. The river offers opportunities for recreation, including fishing and floating, and is a great place to visit with family and friends
