Montana State Capitol

Government building Helena, Montana, United States

What to expect

The Montana State Capitol is a historic building that houses the Montana State Legislature. The building is constructed of Montana sandstone and granite in Greek neoclassical architectural style and features a massive rotunda with four circular paintings surrounding it. These paintings depict important archetypes of people of Montana's early history. The Capitol also features several notable artworks, including a painting by Charles M. Russell titled 'Lewis and Clark Meeting the Flathead Indians at Ross' Hole.' Visitors can take guided tours of the Capitol, which include the Hall of Governors and the Governor's Reception Room. Self-guiding tour booklets and a scavenger hunt for kids are also available. The Capitol is a great place to visit with family and learn about Montana's history and government
