Missouri State Penitentiary Museum

The Missouri State Penitentiary is a historic landmark that operated for 168 years before decommissioning in 2004. Visitors can take history or ghost tours, walking through historic housing units, the upper courtyard, and the gas chamber. The prison's past is marked by its notorious reputation, earning it the nickname 'bloodiest 47 acres in America' in 1967. A museum is also available, showcasing the prison's history, with displays on prison industries, life inside the walls, and control/counter-control. The museum features a replica cell and memorabilia, providing insight into the living conditions and daily life of the prison's former inmates
