Nauset Light, officially Nauset Beach Light, is a restored lighthouse located on the Cape Cod National Seashore near Eastham, Massachusetts. The lighthouse is a cast-iron plate shell lined with brick and stands 48 feet high. It was built in 1877 and was originally located in Chatham, but was moved to Eastham in 1923. The lighthouse was painted red and white in the 1940s and has a unique characteristic of alternating white and red lights. The lighthouse was automated in 1955 and the original Fresnel lens was replaced with aerobeacons in 1981. Due to coastal erosion, the lighthouse was relocated in 1996 to a new site about 300 feet away from its original location. Today, the lighthouse is maintained by the Nauset Light Preservation Society and is open to visitors. The adjacent oil house has also been restored and is available for tours. The lighthouse offers stunning views of the surrounding area and is a great spot for photos
