It was founded in 1927 by Raymond Moore, who converted a 19th-century former Unitarian Meeting House into a theater. The playhouse has hosted many big-name stars over the years, including Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, and Humphrey Bogart, and is often referred to as 'The Birthplace of the Stars.' The theater is situated on 26 acres of land, which also includes the Cape Cinema, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and the Center Stage Cafe.
