Chatham Lighthouse

Lighthouse Chatham, Massachusetts, United States

What to expect

The Chatham Lighthouse, also known as the Chatham Light, is a historic lighthouse located in Chatham, Massachusetts. It stands 48 feet tall and 80 feet above sea level, overlooking the infamous Chatham Bar. The lighthouse has a rich history, dating back to 1808, and has undergone several transformations over the years. It was originally a pair of lighthouses, known as the 'Twin Lights,' and was used as a range to mark the safe channel. The current tower was built in 1877 and is still an active aid to navigation. The lighthouse is now part of an active duty Coast Guard Station, responsible for the safety of the local fishing fleet and recreational boating community. Visitors can view the lighthouse and its grounds, and the original Fresnel lens is on display at the Atwood House Museum
