The Awakening

Statue Oxon Hill, Maryland, United States

What to expect

The Awakening is a 72-foot aluminum statue depicting a giant man desperately struggling to emerge from the earth. The statue consists of five separate pieces buried in the ground, giving the impression of a distressed giant attempting to free himself from the ground. The giant's outstretched right arm towers 17 feet above the ground, and his bent left leg and knee rise above the earth, while his left hand and right foot just break the surface. His bearded face shows a look of abject terror with his mouth opening to unleash a primal scream. The statue is located on a small beach area at the Potomac waterfront in National Harbor, where visitors can interact with the art. The Awakening is a signature piece of the outdoor art at National Harbor and is a popular spot for photos
