What to expect

The Ocean Path Trail is a scenic walking trail that begins at the far end of the upper parking lot at Sand Beach and meanders along the eastern shore of Mount Desert Island for approximately 2 miles until it arrives at Otter Cliff and Otter Point. The trail offers stunning coastal views, easy navigation, and family-friendly paths. Along the way, visitors can stop at Thunder Hole, an underwater sea cave that produces thundering crashes with the right conditions, and Otter Cliff, a massive headland with spectacular panoramic views of the eastern coastline. The trail is suitable for families and is a great place to capture stunning images. Visitors can also explore the nearby Gorham Mountain Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline
