The Great Head Trail is a 1.4-1.9 mile long trail located in Acadia National Park, Maine. The trail begins at the far end of Sand Beach with granite steps and offers excellent views of Sand Beach and The Beehive. It continues along the headland with dramatic views of the coastline and ocean, and features a gradual grade to reach the highest point at 145 feet above sea level, where the ruins of a 1915 tea house can be seen. The trail is rocky with uneven footing, and good footwear is recommended. Dogs are allowed on a leash no longer than 6 feet, but are only permitted on Sand Beach between May 15 and September 15 for crossing to the trail head. The trail is suitable for families with children and offers a great place to watch the sunrise
