Bell Smith Springs is a scenic recreation area in the Shawnee National Forest, featuring a series of clear, rocky streams and scenic canyons bordered by high sandstone cliffs. The area offers 8 miles of interconnected trails, including the Sentry Bluff Trail, General Area Trails, Natural Bridge Trail, and Mill Branch Trail, which provide opportunities for hiking and exploring the unique rock formations, such as Devil's Backbone and Boulder Falls. The trails range from moderate to difficult and offer scenic overlooks, hidden springs, and lush flora and fauna. The area is also a great spot for bird watching, with over 700 species of flowering plants, ferns, and lichens, and is home to a variety of wildlife, including tanagers, sparrows, and pileated woodpeckers. Visitors should exercise caution when crossing creeks, as the water can be deep, and be aware of poison ivy and venomous snakes in the area
