What to expect

Starved Rock State Park is a world apart from anything else in Illinois, with amazing seasonal waterfalls, 13 miles of trails to explore, and the Illinois River offering fishing, boating, and extraordinary views. The park has a rich history, with a legend that the park derives its name from a Native American legend. The park was purchased by the State of Illinois in 1911, making it the state's first recreational park. The Visitor Center is a great place to start your visit, with museum-quality exhibits and displays detailing the park's history, geology, and ecology. The Le Rocher Gift Shop is also located in the Visitor Center, offering unique gifts and supporting the park through the Starved Rock Foundation. The park offers various activities, including hiking, and has a Junior Ranger Program for kids
