The Bean

Art installation Chicago, Illinois, United States

What to expect

The Bean, also known as Cloud Gate, is a public sculpture located in Millennium Park. It is a stainless steel sculpture with a reflective and highly polished exterior, inspired by liquid mercury. The sculpture has a concave chamber on its underside, known as the omphalos, which provides multiple reflections of any subject situated beneath it. Visitors can walk around and under the sculpture, and its mirror-like surface reflects the city's skyline and clouds moving overhead. The sculpture is a popular spot for photo-taking and is considered one of the most iconic landmarks in Chicago
