Laupāhoehoe is a census-designated place in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaii, United States. The community's name means 'lava tip' and refers to the angular lava tip or cape formed by ancient pāhoehoe flows. The area has a total area of 3.49 square miles and a population of 1,147 as of 2020. Laupāhoehoe is located on the northeast side of the island of Hawaii and has a monument dedicated to the victims of the 1946 tsunami that struck the area, killing 24 people, including 16 schoolchildren. The community has a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 68.7°F to 81.3°F throughout the year
