Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is a protected marine sanctuary and one of the most spectacular natural resources in Hawaii. The bay was formed by two craters and features a shallow fringing reef, coral beds, and an abundance of marine life, including fish, turtles, and other species. The preserve is dedicated to safeguarding the fragile marine life in the bay and is the first Marine Life Conservation District in the State. The award-winning Marine Education Center provides education programs for visitors, and the preserve offers facilities such as restrooms, showers, and a snack bar. Safety considerations include avoiding certain areas during rough water conditions and being aware of strong currents. Lifeguards are on duty year-round
