What to expect

Puu Loa Petroglyphs Trail is a 1.2-mile out-and-back trail that takes an average of 26 minutes to complete. The trail travels across a lava field to a petroglyph site, featuring over 23,000 petroglyph images, including cupules, circles, geometric designs, and human representations. The site is considered sacred to the people of Hawaii and is a great place for families to learn about the history and culture of the Native Hawaiian people. The trail is relatively easy, but it's recommended to bring plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes due to the rocky terrain and lack of shade. A boardwalk is available for visitors to view the petroglyphs without damaging them
