The Kīpukapuaulu Trail is a 1.2-mile loop trail that takes you through a 'kīpuka', an area of older vegetation surrounded by a more recent lava flow from Mauna Loa. The trail is home to a treasure trove of native Hawaiian species and is sometimes referred to as 'bird park'. It's a great spot for birding, hiking, and walking, and is suitable for families with children. The trail is relatively easy and takes about 29 minutes to complete. Along the way, you can see various native plants, including Hōlei, Māmaki, and Pāpala Kēpau. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit at any time
