The Old Jail is a historic jail in St. Augustine, Florida, that served the city from 1891 to 1953. It is a two-story building with a Romanesque Revival style, designed to resemble a Victorian house without interior comfort and charm. The jail held up to 72 prisoners and had a women's section, maximum security area, and a death row cell. Visitors can take guided tours of the jail, which include the women's cells, men's cells, and maximum-security cells. The Old Jail also offers a nighttime tour as part of the Ghosts and Gravestones tour. The jail has a unique history, with stories about individual inmates and the sheriffs who lived on site with their families. Today, the Old Jail provides a glimpse into the history of the penal system and the daily life of its prisoners
