What to expect

Highlands Hammock State Park is a 9,000-acre park that supports a beautiful yet delicate ecosystem with a unique and richly divergent collection of plant and animal life. The park has nine trails, including an elevated boardwalk through a cypress swamp, and a 3-mile bike loop. Visitors can see white-tailed deer, American alligators, gopher tortoises, and a variety of birds. The park also features the Florida Civilian Conservation Corps Museum with interactive exhibits about the 1930-1940s period of the park's construction and the history of the CCC in Florida and the United States. The park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and offers ranger-guided tours, a campground, and a picnicking area with a playground
