San Miguel River

The San Miguel River is a tributary of the Dolores River, approximately 81 miles long, in southwestern Colorado. It rises in the San Juan Mountains southeast of Telluride and flows northwest, along the southern slope of the Uncompahgre Plateau, past the towns of Placerville and Nucla. The river offers various outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, fly fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The San Miguel River Trail is a popular trail that follows the river for the length of the town of Telluride, providing easy access for a stroll and featuring dog-friendly swimming holes. The river's colder, clean water is home to native fish like cutthroat trout and mottled sculpin.
