Medano Creek

Medano Creek is a unique recreational oasis located at the foot of the Great Sand Dunes, creating a natural beach where visitors can splash around, picnic, and enjoy various activities such as building sandcastles, skim boarding, or tubing down the river. The creek's flow is fed by the surrounding mountain's snowpack, making spring and early summer the best time to visit. The creek usually reaches its peak flow in May, with warm water temperatures and pleasant temperatures, making it an ideal time for water play and surge flow, where waves form and flow down across the sand. As the creek becomes lower and slower, mosquitoes may emerge, but moving away from vegetation and towards the open sand can help avoid them
