What to expect
The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a unique landscape featuring the tallest sand dunes in North America, with dunes reaching up to 750 feet tall. The park is situated in a diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, forests, alpine lakes, and tundra. Visitors can explore the dune field, hike to the top of the tallest dune, Star Dune, and enjoy activities such as sandboarding and sand-sledding. The park also offers a visitor center, camping areas, and a variety of programs and events, including a Summer Concert Series and Junior Ranger Day programs. The Medano and Sand Creeks carry sand from the mountainside and recycle it on the valley floor, helping to preserve the Great Sand Dunes. The park has a rich cultural history, with evidence of human habitation dating back 11,000 years, and is home to a variety of ecosystems, including alpine tundra, subalpine forests, and riparian zones

Activities: We went to the Great Sand Dune National Park, which has the highest dunes in North America. The kids were thrilled and wanted to play "Indiana Jones." Eric took the boys to play while I stayed with Lucie
Highlights: The kids were excited to explore, jump in the sand, slide, climb, etc. "The children started jumping for joy as they saw the dunes." They had a lot of fun playing on the dunes ✨
