Bear Lake is a scenic trailhead and destination in Rocky Mountain National Park, sitting at an elevation of 9,450 feet. The alpine lake rests beneath the sheer flanks of Hallett Peak and the Continental Divide. Several trails, from easy strolls to strenuous hikes, start from the lake. The lake was formed during the ice age by a big chunk of ice, and several moraines can be found downhill of Bear Lake. Bear Lake has a humid continental climate, closely bordering on a subalpine climate. The place is accessible, with a 0.7-mile loop trail around the lake and wooden benches at many scenic viewing areas. Many scenic hiking destinations can be accessed from Bear Lake, including Alberta Falls, Dream Lake, Emerald Lake, Flattop Mountain, Lake Haiyaha, The Loch, Bierstadt Lake, and Fern Lake
